Pet Peeves

It seems that with the evolution - yes, that's right - evolution - of the personal computer and its accompanying spell-check software, and shorthand that we have become lazy. I can't imagine one so lazy that he/she cannot type four, b, to, too, etc., ad nauseum. I'm almost driven to distraction by the shorthand. What about those of us who have to read the stuff? It takes me longer to figure some of it out than it would take the author of such garbage to type it. Bah humbug!

Unfortunately, I think the mispellers of the world are far worse. I'm not talking typos - those happen, and it's often easy to miss one or two even when proofreading, but mispelled words . . .

Yesterday, I posted a poll on a webboard I frequent often titled:

"Is it because or becuase?"

Amazing how often such a simple word is mispelled. I don't get it. Someone, who shall remain anonymous in this blog entry, posted the following reply:

"are you kidding?
haven't you heard the old adage... "A before U, except after Q and in the internet suffix for Ukraine"...?
I'm sure there are kids songs written about it by now... "

I must admit chuckling over that one even though mispells will still remain one pet peeve that does 'make me scream,' or at least roll my eyes.

I'm with you on the chat-room style shorthand. May I share on of my peeves? It's turning verbs into nouns. For example, "misspells", "write", "read", etc. I guess we all have our transgressions, eh?

Oops... I meant to say "one", not "on". As in "one" of my peeves.
